Marketing Tip
I commented to my editor friend Kristin Thiel at the Willamette Writers Conference that there were fewer attendees at the marketing workshop than the other workshops I attended. She replied, "Marketing is broccoli and the craft of writing is chocolate."
To my readers, "Eat your broccoli!" If you're not marketing your book, it's likely not selling. Click here for 10 ways to raise your marketability.
Book Tip
There was much talk about e-books at the Willamette Writers Conference. Generally, if a book was released only in electronic format it wasn't selling well. The consensus was that an e-book could do well as long as the physical book is also available.
Books with multimedia platforms are popular with kids. For example, to find The 39 Clues you "read the books, collect the cards, play the game, and win the prizes."
Tidbit
Congratulations to my author client Bob Hazleton on his book Dads Matter: Principles, Lessons & Stories on the Remarkable Impact of Fathers. I was honored to design the cover and interior pages of this important book about communicating, being there, and learning it's the small stuff that matters.
